“The Storyteller”
Helen Cordero, born in 1915 to the Cochiti Pueblo is credited with the 
first “Storyteller” figurine. Her original figurine was modeled after 
her Grandfather, Santiago Quintana. Today, the term ‘Storyteller’ is a generic 
term and is used to describe any figure, male, female, animal, clown, spirit, etc. 
that is covered by children or baby animals.  This Storyteller is made of saddle 
deerskin and is 2 ¾” tall. Her babies are made of gold elk, chestnut elk and 
saddle deerskin. She is the 13th in the American Indian series and a limited edition of 20.
